In 2020, Vidhi expanded its work and opened an office in Mumbai to address legal reform in Maharashtra. The COVID-19 pandemic has underlined the key role of the State Government in India’s constitutional set up. With this vision, as its first initiative, Vidhi Maharashtra has launched a Briefing Book on Fifteen Suggested Legal Reforms for Maharashtra.

The Briefing Book is a list of recommended reforms for the State of Maharashtra. The suggested reforms focus on how we as a community can learn from the pandemic and strengthen systems for the citizens of Maharashtra.

Dr. Vijay Kelkar, Former Finance Secretary and Chairman, Thirteenth Finance Commission, launched the Briefing Book. This was followed by a panel discussion on legal reforms to build a modern Maharashtra which included Hon’ble Mr. Justice G.S. Patel, Judge, Bombay High Court, Mr. Ajoy Mehta, Former Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, Dr. Anand Bang, Joint Director, SEARCH, Gadchiroli, Dr. Rahela Khorakiwala, Lead, Vidhi Maharashtra
