The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act, 2026, came into effect on May 25, 2026. While the constitutionality of the Act is currently being challenged in the Supreme Court, State Governments can make rules and orders to operationalise the Amendment Act to ensure the recognition and protection of the rights of transgender individuals within their states.
