As part of the Vidhi Summit, 2018 ‘Deepening Dialogue’ at the India Habitat Centre organised a town hall discussion, titled ‘Realising Data Sovereignty’. The discussion was moderated by Ms. Supriya Shrinate, Executive Editor – News, ET Now and the panel consisted of Justice B.N. Srikrishna, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Chairperson of the Committee of Experts on a Data Protection Framework for India; Mr. Lalitesh Katragadda, Founder, Indihood; Ms. Amba Kak, Policy Advisor, Mozilla Corporation and Mr. Lalit Panda, Research Fellow, Vidhi. The objective of the town hall was to shed light on the emergent issue of data sovereignty, especially the issue of data localisation that has occupied central space in public discourse since the release of report and the draft Personal Data Protection Bill by the Committee of Experts.
