Vidhi, in collaboration with the India International Centre, organised a public dialogue on “The Economic Survey and the Union Budget, 2018”. Dr Arvind Subramanian and Mr. Arvind Datar were the panelists.
Arvind Subramanian is an Indian economist and the current Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India, having taken charge of the position on 16 October 2014 succeeding Raghuram Rajan. He served as the Dennis Weatherstone Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and a Senior Fellow at the Center for Global Development, both located in Washington DC. Formerly an economist at the International Monetary Fund, he is a widely cited expert on the economics of India, China, and the changing balance of global economic power. He is the author of two books, India’s Turn: Understanding the Economic Transformation published in 2008, Eclipse: Living in the Shadow of China’s Economic Dominance published in September 2011, and co-author of Who Needs to Open the Capital Account? which was published in 2012.
Mr. Arvind Data is a Senior Advocate in Supreme Court. He has appeared before the Supreme Court in leading cases such as the National Company Law Tribunal case, the National Tax Tribunal case, and the landmark National Judicial Appointments Commission case. He has authored the multi-volume ‘Datar Commentary on the Constitution of India’, published by LexisNexis and co-authored the book ‘Nani Palkhivala: The Courtroom Genius’.
