A peek behind the gates: Open prisons in Rajasthan challenge us to rethink crime and punishment. India has 1,330 prisons, struggling with 131% occupancy, serving as a stark reminder of our overwhelmed system. Yet, open prisons might present a different possibility. Did you know? There are only 88 open prisons across 17 states, and nearly half of them (41) are in Rajasthan. These spaces move away from iron bars and walls, focusing instead on trust, work, and reintegration. In collaboration with 101Reporters, Vidhi captures the lived experiences of people within these systems to shape public discourse and spark reform.
