About the Authors
Kanav N Sahgal is Samvidhaan Fellowship Programme Manager . He carries with him over five years of experience in the domains of gender and sexuality research and advocacy (with a specific focus on LGBTQIA+ communities), mental health and sexual health advocacy, development communications, and strategic human resources management. He has worked for NGOs, not-for-profits, and for-profits engaged in the following domains: international development (monitoring and evaluation), environmental and social consulting, student leadership development, anti-human trafficking, and LGBTQIA+ advocacy. Kanav is also a columnist for multiple national and international platforms. He writes extensively about LGBTQIA+ rights, the state of Indian politics, human rights, women's rights, health, and mental health. His work has appeared in The Diplomat Magazine, Cosmopolitan India, JURIST, and Orinam among others. His debut semi-autobiographical essay was published by Suvidhi Publication House in 2020 in a literary fiction anthology called “Life- A Cocktail of Emotions”. He is also a regular guest speaker for international digital media platforms such as ReportOut's Hidden Voices Podcast (a Podcast run by a UK-based human rights charity), the Worldly Wellbeing Podcast (a UK-based health and wellness podcast), and the Roti Riot Podcast (a South African Podcast run by two feminist queer activists). Kanav is passionate about volunteering and currently sits on the leadership team of Harmless Hugs- a Delhi-based LGBTQIA+ support group and Queer Academia- an initiative by Mendlife Foundation. Kanav holds a Master's Degree in Development, a Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management, a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, and multiple e-certificates (topics: human rights law, gender and sexuality, disability studies, media and PR, etc). He is also a QPR-certified gatekeeper for suicide awareness and prevention.
