SARAL Survey Findings
(English)
Legal documents in India are often complex, making it difficult for citizens to understand their rights and obligations. The SARAL Initiative, incubated at the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, aims to change this by developing systematic guidelines for clear and accessible legal drafting.
To better understand public perception, the SARAL Initiative conducted India’s first survey on the need for simplicity in law. The findings reveal an overwhelming demand for more comprehensible legal documents, with 84.5% of respondents stating they struggle to understand legal texts.
This booklet presents key survey results and reinforces the urgent need to transform how laws, contracts, and legal documents are drafted in India.
