Report Launch: The Quest for Prosecutorial Independence
The Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy invites you to the launch of the report ‘The Quest for Prosecutorial Independence’ on 21 February 2022 at 5:30 pm (IST).
The report studies the functioning of the office of Public Prosecution and interrogates the various institutional and structural factors that impinge on the independence of the office of prosecution in India. It explores amongst other things, the issues related to the functioning of the various categories of prosecutors and the relationship they share with the state executive. The report argues that the current context in which the prosecutors operate interferes with the aims of a due process based criminal justice system. It does so by compromising the ability of prosecutors to make independent decisions about the progress of criminal trials.
