About the Book

The book traces the history of Parliament from the approval of its original design in 1919 to the making of the new Parliament House in 2023. It follows the institution through defining moments in India’s democratic journey including independence, key parliamentary debates, political upheavals, and the physical attacks on the institution.

It also offers glimpses into the making of modern Delhi, bringing together the history of a building, the life of an institution and the evolution of a democracy.

About the Author

Sobhana K Nair is Senior Deputy Editor at The Hindu. In her journalistic career spanning over two decades, Sobhana has been associated with The Indian Express, Hindustan Times, The Telegraph and Mumbai Mirror. Sobhana’s work covers Indian national politics, parliamentary proceedings and public policy. She hosts the podcast The Rearview for The Hindu and is the author of Ram Vilas Paswan: The Weathervane of Indian Politics (Roli Books, 2024).
