Response to the SEBI Consultation Paper on Crowdfunding in India (July, 2014)

Vidhi’s response and policy suggestions offered to the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) consultation paper on regulating crowdfunding in India.

Summary: The Report addresses questions raised by SEBI on exploring the possible means of regulating crowdfunding in India, while making proposals for a regulatory framework that balances investor protection and promotion of entrepreneurship.

On June 17, 2014, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (“SEBI”) issued a consultation paper on regulating crowdfunding in India (“SEBI Consultation Paper”). Our report seeks to address the questions raised in the SEBI Consultation Paper and makes proposals for developing a regulatory framework that strikes an appropriate balance between promotion of entrepreneurship and protection of investors.
