The Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy (“Vidhi”) is an independent think tank doing legal research and assisting the government in making better laws. Vidhi is committed to producing legal research of the highest standard with the aim of informing public debate and contributing to improved governance. Vidhi works with the Ministries of the Government of India and State Governments, as well as other public institutions, providing research and drafting support at various stages of law-making. Vidhi also conducts and freely disseminates independent research in areas of legal reform which it believes is critical to India’s future. About Kautilya Society

Kautilya Society, set up by the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, is a student initiative in universities across India aimed to empower young minds to explore public policy as a career path. Kautilya Society students conduct legal research to identify gaps in law, policy, governance or regulation and contribute to public policy discourse by hosting discussions and events on recent legal policy developments. 

The societies, set up by the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, are currently in nine law schools across the country and are composed of 100+ students. The campuses currently include the National University of Juridical Sciences, West Bengal; NALSAR (National Academy of Legal Studies and Research) University of Law, Hyderabad; National Law School of India University, Bengaluru; National Law University, Odisha; Symbiosis Law School, Pune; Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow; Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law Punjab; Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur; and Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar.

Position Description

Vidhi’s Kautilya Society team is looking for a Programme Manager to manage the Kautilya Society. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all communications, engagement, and collaborations with the Kautilya Societies 
  • Assist in conducting research, literature reviews, and data collection for various Vidhi initiatives
  • Ideate, execute, and lead different modes of collaboration across Societies, including but not limited to events 
  • Provide guidance to Kautilya Society members in their outputs 
  • Build a brand identity for Kautilya Societies 
  • Conduct orientation sessions and regular reviews on the functioning of the Kautilya Society

Requirements

Essential 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in law/social sciences/public policy
  • Two  years of demonstrated experience
  • Excellent communication, management, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Have a spirit of innovation and collaboration

Desirable 

  • Experience in interacting with students 
  • Experience working with universities/colleges 

Location and Remuneration

  • This will be a full-time position based out of the Vidhi Delhi office, but will require frequent travel to the partner universities.
  •  The engagement will last for a period of one year, and renewal shall be subject to performance and availability of funds. 
  • Remuneration is competitive and in line with the experience of the candidate and the existing structure at Vidhi.
