ABOUT THE BOOK
The Constitution of India’s preamble declares itself to be sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic. In this latest book, Mathew John showcases how the Constitution despite its liberal design continues to identify people in their communal term. The book looks at discussions on law, constitutionalism, and political identity. The division on the basis of political identity hinders the creation of an inclusive community in any country, especially one as diverse as India. It also expresses a doubt on the question of Uniform Civil Code and whether it can do away with the crystallisation of communal identities over the years by personal law.
