Great Cases Series | Discussion 4 | The Future of Family Law in India

Thursday, 9 May 2024, 5:30 pm-Thursday, 9 May 2024, 8:00 pm

About the Discussion

The Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy is organising a roundtable on May 9, 2024, in collaboration
with the India International Centre, New Delhi as part of its series: “The Working of the Indian
Constitution: Stories and Scholarship”. The roundtable hopes to serve as a site for engagement, debate, and deliberation on the future of family laws in India. To this end, it seeks to specifically focus on the principles that must inform a modern progressive family law(s) for India and the medium and manner in which such reform must be effected. In light of the Model Code on Indian Family Law, 2024 which presents itself as an illustration of a gender just, queer inclusive, and modern family law framework, the roundtable seeks to engage with the merits of the Code itself and discuss possible alternative approaches to reforming India’s family laws.
