The next edition of Vidhi Dialogue is on the theme “Law, Society & the #MeToo Movement”. Given the tenor of the movement, there is substantial need to explore its interplay with formal, legal mechanisms. The talk may be about understanding and justifying the movement’s extra-legal manifestation. It may also draw from the experiences that have emerged to outline the design of a more humane and sensitive legal system. We envision a fruitful discussion on these issues by bringing together individuals with a close understanding of the movement and its place in our society.

The panelists for this session are, Anoo Bhuyan (Journalist with The Wire), Kiruba Munusamy (Lawyer & Anti Caste Activist), Mihira Sood (Human Rights Lawyer) and Vqueeram Aditya Sahai (Queer Actvist).

We aim to cover few areas in the process of the dicussion:

  • Role of the media (especially the social media) in the movement.

  • Need for due diligence in informal redressal mechanisms.

  • How the movement can be incorporated in the legal system

  • How these formal and informal systems have been exclusionary of marginalised communities.

We hope to welcome citizens, practitioners, activists, commentators, and/or policy-makers to engage with us in this discussion.

The event is scheduled on 19th Nov, 2018 at Lecture Hall 2, Annexe Building, India International Centre.
